Vision plan choices for 2025 – NEW!
Last updated: June 27, 2024
Choose from three new vision plans during Open Enrollment
In May 2024, Washington State’s Health Care Authority (HCA) announced, effective January 2025, PEBB benefits-eligible employees will now be able to choose between three new standalone vision plans (vision benefits will no longer be rolled into medical plans) and all employees currently enrolled in a medical plan WILL need to select a vision plan during Open Enrollment, with that selection going into effect January 1, 2025.
NEW OPEN ENROLLMENT DATES BEGINNING IN 2024! Don’t forget to mark your calendar: this year, Open Enrollment will run October 28 – November 25.
Similar to dental insurance, there is no employee premium for vision coverage and employees do not pay an additional premium to cover their qualified dependents. Depending on your needs, you can choose between three different vision plans:
- MetLife Vision
- Davis Vision by MetLife
- EyeMed Vision Care
Wondering if your current eye doctor is covered? You can quickly determine if your current eye care provider is covered, or find a new eye care provider, by searching on each vision plan’s “Find a Provider” directory:
- Find a MetLife Vision provider
- Find a Davis Vision by MetLife provider
- Find an EyeMed Vision Care provider
As you determine which vision plan works best for you and your family, use the tables below to compare plans and review side-by-side cost comparisons for various vision benefits such as routine eye exams, eyeglasses, contact lenses and LASIK surgery.
Please note: The tables below show what you pay for in-network services in 2024; 2025 costs may be different. The amount in parentheses is the maximum amount the plan would reimburse you for out-of-network services.

Frequently asked questions
If an employee forgets to select a vision plan during Open Enrollment, they (and any dependents currently enrolled in their medical plan) will be automatically enrolled in the MetLife Vision plan. Once enrolled, employees can change their vision plan during the following year’s Open Enrollment or if they experience a Life Event (such as marriage or the birth or adoption of a child).
No. Similar to dental plans, eligible dependents must be enrolled in the same vision plan as the employee.
Similar to dental plans, the HCA doesn’t restrict vision coverage by county as they do for medical plans. However, you’ll want to use each plan’s Provider Search to ensure you can find network providers near you.
No, you can cover different qualified dependents under each plan type (medical, dental, vision).
