CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within the UW Libraries, support information technology operations in user experience design. This is a stand-alone job class.

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide technical expertise to the Libraries in user interface or user experience (UI or UX) design, which may include site architecture, graphic design and overall web publishing for the Libraries.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general direction (typically of a librarian), independently provide complex computing support for the Libraries & Press, primarily in the area of user interface/user experience (UI/UX), web applications and services both on-premises and hosted. The work of this job profile may also include duties for:

IT platforms both cloud and on-premises; and,
User support and large-scale desktop management and deployment.
May serve as a working supervisor in a Libraries IT help desk or IT user support services unit.

TYPICAL WORK

Design user-centered interfaces and systems by conducting and applying UX research, accessibility standards, and building information architecture;

Design, build, and integrate websites, web services, and web applications;

Understand and apply user management, authentication and authorization;

Perform technical evaluation, installation, maintenance, and support of computer systems software, hardware, and cloud infrastructures;

Conduct research regarding system upgrades, integration, and maintenance initiatives;

Work with staff and IT administrators to troubleshoot security and privacy issues; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Design or related area and 3 years of related experience

OR

Equivalent combination of education/experience.
