CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within the UW Libraries, utilize specialized knowledge to provide support in developing, managing, providing outreach, and obtaining collections and digital scholarship. Typical collections managed by this series include still photography, music or motion video, digital content, digital scholarship projects.

BASIC FUNCTION

Support the libraries by managing and obtaining collections and digital scholarship. This role will also provide direction and decision-making for collections and projects.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Reporting to the Director of Special Collections, serve as a subject matter or domain expert to manage collections of materials, projects, scholarship. This includes developing policies and procedures, obtaining materials, providing outreach, serving as reference and providing instruction.

TYPICAL WORK

Select and develop collections to bring into the Libraries or help manage. This includes working with faculty, students, and donors and cultivating relationships with owners of collections of interest;

Make decisions regarding use of collections, goals for collections, and policies and procedures;

Provide professional, technical, and subject/domain-specific expertise and support to faculty, students, researchers, and other staff through consultation;

Conduct outreach and teaching about the collections and digital scholarship;

Direct and carry out physical and digital management of collections including preservation review and physical organization of collections;

Describe, analyze and apply intellectual organization of collections;

May supervise staff, including student, classified, professional, and librarian;

May provide leadership and visioning for programs, collections, a library unit;

May serve on leadership, decision-making, policy development groups; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree area of curatorial focus, and 2 years of curatorial work experience

OR

Equivalent combination of education/experience.
