CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Produce multimedia content for KUOW radio drivetime programming. This is a single-class series.
BASIC FUNCTION
Assist in managing the editorial process. Produce local news segments for broadcast in KUOW daily news magazines during drivetime.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under the supervision of the Editor, assist in managing the editorial process to produce local news segments for broadcast in KUOW daily news magazines during drivetime. Work with the Editor on strategic planning for future coverage and seek out new voices to appear on air. Develop local and national contacts for breaking news sources. Gather sound and conduct interviews.
Working closely with the News Host, lead the editing and production function of the daily news magazine team, directing and coaching the production team in the delivery of news segments.
Edit, rewrite and review content by reporters and producers for newscasts. Work with host to develop and write online posts that are updated regularly. Write News Host introductions and interview questions. Conduct research and pre-interviews and book guests for News Host.
Monitor sources such as wires and social media for breaking news and serve as “first responder” in breaking news stories that may require extended working hours.
TYPICAL WORK
Typical working titles are “Senior Drivetime Producer” or “Producer 4 – Drivetime”;
Working closely with the News Host, lead the editing and production function of the daily news magazine team;
Direct and coach production team in the delivery of news segments;
Responsible for monitoring sources such as wires and social media for breaking news;
Responsible for editing, rewriting, and reviewing content by reporters and producers for newscasts;
Seek out new voices to appear on air, and develop local and national contacts for breaking news sources. Gather sound and conduct interviews;
Strategic planning for future coverage;
Conducts research, pre-interviews and books guests for News Host. Write News Host introductions and interview questions;
Serve as “first responder” in breaking news stories that may require extended working hours;
Work with host to develop and write online posts that are updated regularly; and
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or similar field and four years of professional journalism experience of increasing responsibility, preferably with background in writing for talk programming and radio production or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires knowledge of professional broadcast and journalistic standards and practices.
