DEFINITION

Assist in the enrollment of military veterans, particularly educationally disadvantaged, under-employed, unemployed and/or minority veterans in an educational or training program of their choice.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions in this class shall report to the Veteran Supervisor or the appropriate administrator and shall assume the programmatic responsibilities to ensure the achievement of the project goal in veteran affairs.

TYPICAL WORK

Be responsible for the supervision of a clerical staff of the project’s office in an area of the district;

Serve as a chairleader of a Veteran Advisory committee, if utilized in assigned areas;

Assist the appropriate administrator in liaison with the administrative officers of federal, state, and local veterans organizations and service agencies, community agencies and community college offices;

Develop and coordinate progress reports to ensure successful development of veterans’ programs;

Coordinate between staff, Community Involvement Program all other appropriate offices and agencies and the veteran community to ensure maximum community student and community involvement;

perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate Arts Degree and a year of experience in community programs dealing with educationally disadvantaged and/or minorities. Work experience win the above programs may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the educational requirement. Substantiated work in a branch of the military service as a unit advisor in post military benefits and counseling may be accepted as work experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
