BASIC FUNCTION
Serve as baker and second cook on an ocean research vessel with a capacity for up to 60 crew and research personnel.
Lead mess attendants or other assigned personnel.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others.
Under general supervision, have prime responsibility for ship’s bakery operations in addition to responsibility for assisting in the preparation of other food aboard a ship.
TYPICAL WORK
Inventory food and galley linen;
Receive food stores and assist in proper storage;
Assist other cooks in preparing and serving meals for ship’s crew and scientific personnel;
Bake bread, cakes, pies, rolls, etc.;
Assist in maintaining a clean and sanitary galley;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One year of experience in food handling, baking and general food preparation
OR
equivalent education/experience.
Legal Requirement
U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s document endorsed "Steward Department (FH)".
