BASIC FUNCTION
Perform professional work in support of scientific research; develop and verify investigative procedures; assist in experimental design.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general direction, develop, verify and implement investigative procedures to accomplish research goals; analyze experimental results and prepare reports for publication. Assist in the design of experiments; determine appropriate experimental controls.
TYPICAL WORK
Collaborate with primary investigator, and assist in designing experiments; examine proposals to determine projects and methodologies best suited to research objectives;
Determine the most suitable methods to be used in research; determine appropriate experimental controls;
Edit and write reports of research including the assembly, organization, analysis and interpretation of data; perform necessary literature survey;
Prepare and present written and oral reports of experimental results;
May train and direct the work of Research Technologists and other laboratory personnel;
May direct the operation of one or more facets of the research laboratory;
May evaluate and select new equipment;
Perform duties of Research Technologist II;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field of technology or science and two years experience as a Research Technologist, or equivalent; OR an advanced Degree in an appropriate scientific field. Professional-level experience may be substituted, year-for-year, for the formal academic degree.

Training or experience within a specific discipline will be required to meet the unique requirements of individual positions.
