DEFINITION

Process film, tape and media equipment requests; may direct work of clerical and/or media personnel; may provide secretarial support.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions at the “I” level are distinguished by responsibility for the booking and processing of orders for media equipment, tapes and/or film. Duties may require minor maintenance or media material.

Positions at the “II” level perform the duties at the “I” level and additionally provide secretarial support to a supervisor.

Positions at the “III” level direct the work of Media/Film Clerks and others, and perform occupational-level typing duties.

TYPICAL WORK

Schedule and arrange campus projection services and use of loan pool equipment;

Inspect media materials and racks for correct shelving and proper care of collections; direct searches for lost items; plan space arrangements in racks; initiate requests for repairs;

Advise faculty and staff of available films, tapes and other media materials; take and process orders for new inventory; coordinate requests with vendors and other institutional libraries;

Operate film rewinding, splicing and inspection of equipment; may perform necessary minor repair to media materials including insertion of replacement footage;

Maintain inventory records, reports and purchase orders;

Type and may take machine transcription; may operate tape recording equipment;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduation, GED Certificate, or six months of general clerical experience; AND one years of full-time related clerical, shipping or stores experience, or equivalent. Experience or training in occupational-level typing may be required through selective certification from the employment list.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
