BASIC FUNCTION
Perform complex clinical angiographic examinations and participate in training of residents, fellows, and students.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Independently perform, and assist physicians to perform, complex technical angiographic interventional procedures such as neuro and interventional angioplasties, aortagrams, stents and stent grafts, embolizations, and intra-arterial chemotherapy treatments. Under a physician’s guidance, initiate IV administration of contrast.
TYPICAL WORK
Operate and troubleshoot angiographic equipment such as angiographic computers, rotational arms and power injecting equipment;
Prepare patient for examination; explain testing procedures; prepare examination rooms for procedures;
Review patient medical history present on the examination requests; consult physician as necessary; tailor examination to individual patient per physician order; operate all angiographic equipment; monitor patients throughout procedure;
Scrub and apply sterile technique in assisting in catheter placement; initiate IV and the administration of contrast media under physician direction.
Operate film processing equipment;
Maintain daily log of procedures performed;
Maintain inventory of supplies to be ordered and submit order request to supervisor;
Assist in evaluating new products, equipment, and techniques;
Perform calibration tests, adjust and maintain all equipment;
Assist in maintaining continuing education and research files;
Participate in formal training programs for residents, fellows, and student radiology technologists;
May conduct imaging procedures during surgical procedures utilizing specialized equipment;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training in an AMA-approved school, registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT),
OR
equivalent education/experience.
Legal Requirement
Certified by the State of Washington as a Radiologic Technologist.
