BASIC FUNCTION
Lead assigned staff involved in the performance of duties associated with a highly specialized or technical program(s) of health information management and assist in the development of policies, procedures, and budgets; and assist in the coordination of activities of the division with other hospital services and outside agencies.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
As a specialized division lead and with delegated authority, participate in interviewing and recommending selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, evaluate leave requests, assist in conducting performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action.
Assist in the coordination of specialized division activities in one of the following programs within Health Information Management: Patient Record and Information Control, Utilization Management, Coding and Data collection, Medical Transcription, and Tumor Registry.
TYPICAL WORK
Assist in helping define and interpret applicable rules, procedures, and regulations for employee and clients; resolve problems between department staff and clients, both internal and external to the medical center.
Aid in the development and implementation of policies and procedures, work methods, performance standards, in-service training, and schedules to be followed by the shift; establish job priorities and coordinate work flow for the shift.
Assist in interviewing, checking references, and selecting staff; assist in evaluating staff performance and participate in recommending training opportunities; identify performance deficiencies; and participate in recommending disciplinary action.
Schedule work within the program area and communicate assignments to staff.
Participate in the preparation of departmental operation summaries and statistics.
Assure maintenance of confidentiality and appropriate control in the release of information.
Maintain a variety of statistical materials for the program.
Perform the duties of division employees and other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduation or equivalent and two years of Lead experience in the program specialty;

equivalent education/experience/training
