BASIC FUNCTION
Direct, design, develop, layout, and coordinate the production of visual materials for research, publication, instructional use or media presentation.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others. Under general direction, coordinate the design, development and production of original artwork for a variety of visual communication purposes.
TYPICAL WORK
Consult with faculty, staff or editors regarding graphics design to determine appropriate and economical format; advise users with regard to the practical applications of graphics design as a tool of visual communication;
Design, plan and layout various types of printed publications; coordinate and design production; ensure adherence to production schedules, quality standards, project specification and budget limitations;
Purchase and direct creative art services from non-institution designers, artists, photographers and other vendors as required;
Recommend copy revisions;
Maintain supply inventory; prepare order lists;
Assist in developing pricing schedules;
Analyze and interpret curriculum materials in order to effectively adapt available audio-visual production techniques and processes to overall objectives;
May coordinate design of departmental or institutional graphics programs, including elements such as integrated typography, logo, use of color, and appropriate applications;
May perform the duties of Graphic Designer/Illustrator;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An Associate’s Degree in graphics design, or equivalent art school training AND two years of experience as a Graphic Designer/Illustrator OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.
