BASIC FUNCTION

Assist the Director/Principal Investigator in the development and implementation of new or expanded programs relating to employment of persons with disabilities. Provide outreach and marketing of all program services. Provide direct service to assigned clients.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general direction, assist in the development of new and/or expanded programs relating to employment of persons with disabilities. Implement new projects. Provide outreach and marketing of all program services. Represent program in community organizations/task forces. Regularly work within an interdisciplinary team environment.

TYPICAL WORK

Assist director and/or principal investigator in the development of proposals for new or enhanced programs relating to the employment of persons with disabilities. May provide research, compile data and develop budget proposals, participate with Director/Principal Investigator in writing or presenting proposals to granting agencies.

Implement new employment projects. This may include: setting up the program, marketing the new program in the community, preparing instructional and marketing materials, developing and implementing data collection protocols, collecting demographic and outcome data, preparing reports for the funding agency, and monitoring the budget.

Market full range of program services to the community. Make presentations to employers, vocational rehabilitation counselors, schools and parent groups. Participate in job fairs. Refer contacts to Employment Specialists I or Rehabilitation Counselors as appropriate. Participate in the development of overall program brochures and other marketing materials.

Represent the Program by participating in interagency task forces, meetings and conferences.

Regularly participate on interdisciplinary teams composed of employers, parents, consumers, and/or community members for the purpose of increasing the employment options for persons with disabilities.

Develop and provide training for professionals such as school personnel and rehabilitation counselors re: the employment of persons with disabilities.

May lead staff.

Perform the duties of Employment Training Specialist I.

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in special education, psychology, rehabilitation, vocational counseling, or related field AND one year of experience as an Employment Training Specialist I.

OR

Equivalent education/experience.
