BASIC FUNCTION

Prepare, operate, and maintain anesthesia and laboratory equipment such as ventilator, patient monitor, blood gas analyzer, centrifuge. Assist medical staff with technical problems relating to the delivery of anesthesia to patients including setting up monitors and troubleshooting monitor malfunctions.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general direction, assist the medical staff with delivery of anesthesia, including the assembly, maintenance, evaluation, and operating of equipment used in complex procedures such as cardiovascular, neurosurgical, and multi-trauma cases. Monitor data regarding patient care in non-critical or critical situations.

TYPICAL WORK

Assist medical staff with anesthesia procedures;

Prepare, calibrate, and connect physiological monitoring equipment such as blood pressure monitors, EKG’s, EEG’s to patients;

Maintain and operate clinical analyzer, obtain blood samples and provide blood parameters to medical staff as directed;

Disassemble, decontaminate, and prepare anesthetic and monitoring equipment as required by the surgical schedule;

Present, interpret, and record physiological data for medical staff;

Install, prepare, calibrate, maintain, and modify electronic and mechanical equipment used for anesthesia;

Assist in training the medical staff in routine and emergency use of all anesthesia monitoring and resuscitation equipment;

Order, prepare, and maintain support equipment for physiological monitoring and anesthesia; document maintenance work performed;

Perform duties of an Anesthesiology Technician I;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Associate of Arts Degree in Biomedical Electronics; OR two years of post-secondary education/training with emphasis in the sciences and one year of work experience in electronics service, maintenance and repair; OR two years of experience as an Anesthesiology Technician I, Paramedic, Laboratory Technician, or equivalent.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
