BASIC FUNCTION

Perform duties required to assist Audiologists in the examination and treatment of patients with hearing disabilities.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Single class – no series. Under general supervision of an Audiologist, prepare patients and environment for examination and treatment, assist in examinations and procedures, and maintain records and equipment pertinent to audiology programs.

TYPICAL WORK

Prepare room and set-up devices and supplies specific to procedures and services;

Prepare patients and assist Audiologists performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; perform earmold impressions, routine screening tests, and non-diagnostic Otoscopy;

Perform specialized clerical and technical duties to facilitate the delivery of patient care, such as, scheduling appointments, registering patients; verifying insurance coverage, and obtaining benefit information for hearing related services and products;

Maintain clinical records and chart client visits in the electronic medical record;

Respond to patient inquiries; provide education and instructions on basic tasks regarding use of amplification devices and auditory implants;

Maintain records relating to program operations; monitor inventory of supplies for equipment and examinations; order and restock supplies as necessary;

Clean hearing aids, implants, and other amplification devices; perform minor adjustments to hearing aids and earmolds based on established protocol; and

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in a health care setting

AND

Completion of audiology technical training program within six months of employment

OR

Equivalent education/experience.
