Cardiac Technologist Supervisor

BASIC FUNCTION

Supervise cardiac technologists and other assigned staff; perform cardiac catheterization procedures; research and develop new techniques and maintain quality control.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary actions. Under general direction, oversee the technical operation of a cardiac catheterization laboratory.

TYPICAL WORK

Research, develop and formulate new techniques; evaluate new products and equipment;

Participate in formal and in-service training programs for staff, students and cardiac fellows; provide demonstrations of cardiac catheterizations;

Maintain quality control of heart catheterization lab in areas such as film development and evaluation, equipment operation and calibration, film library and narcotic log inventory;

Purchase supplies required for procedures;

Process patient change documents for procedures performed;

Oversee radiation protection practices; establish and maintain standards;

Act as departmental liaison with hospital, other hospitals and agencies;

Oversee the distribution and performance of thermodilution cardiac computer;

Assist with budgetary planning;

Perform the duties of Cardiac Technologist;

Assume responsibility for Cardiac Diagnostic Services in manager’s absence;

Schedule patients for cardiac procedures;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Diagnostic Radiology or as an Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist AND two years of experience as a Cardiac Technologist Lead or equivalent position AND certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation within four months from date of hire.

Four years of experience as a Cardiac Technologist or equivalent position may substitute for the two years of experience as a Cardiac Technologist Lead.

Work experience which demonstrates comparable skills may substitute for the registration requirement.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
