BASIC FUNCTION
Operate cash register; collect cash and make change.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Single Class – No Series.
Under direct supervision, operate a cash register and account for cash receipts.
TYPICAL WORK
Operate cash register and adding machine; collect cash, make change, quote prices, and issue cash receipts;
Obtain authorization and cash checks;
Sell sundry counter items such as magazines, candy, razor blades, pencils, ice cream cones, etc.;
Assist customers and answer questions regarding the location of retail items, current prices, and available goods.
May serve food items incidental to cash register duties;
May clean counters, shelves, fixtures, tables, etc.;
May set up cash drawer at beginning of shift and close register at end of shift;
May assist in inventory counting and stocking of replacement items;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED certificate, OR three months of general work experience.
