CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Performs duties in support of the operation of a clinical laboratory, such as conducting laboratory testing and preparation or set up of testing specimens.
BASIC FUNCTION
Perform at a technical level, various routine laboratory testing and/or prepare specimens or setup specimens for laboratory testing, and other laboratory work which supports the operation of a clinical laboratory.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision, perform routine laboratory tests, demonstrate and train others in basic laboratory skills; verify the quality of reagents and media. And/or is routinely assigned special projects that contribute to the development of new processes and procedures of the laboratory.
TYPICAL WORK
Perform routine clinical laboratory tests such as kit assays, bedside monitoring, automated chemistry tests, and cell counts on body fluids;
Maintain cell culture systems, grow and harvest viral stocks, titer each lot of stock virus, and prepare viral lysates;
Perform work related to special projects which contribute to the development of new processes and procedures in the laboratory;
Operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometer, refractometer, conductivity meter, automated chemistry analyzer, bedside monitoring equipment, microscope, electronic cell counter, coagulation instrumentation;
Troubleshoot and eliminate contamination or toxicity problems in cell cultures and media; perform quality control on reagents and viral lysates;
Participate in demonstrating routine laboratory techniques to students and new employees;
Perform the work of a Clinical Laboratory Technician I;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An Associate Degree from a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited f
