DEFINITION
Review, process, evaluate, and approve a wide variety of credentials matters including but not limited to: student admissibility or rejection, course transfer credit; course equivalency; class standing; graduation requirements; etc.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are distinguished by the delegated authority to admit or deny student admission based upon their own evaluations of the applicants’ academic credentials.
TYPICAL WORK
Inform prospective students about admissibility to the institution and to special academic programs within the institution;
Check admissions credentials for completeness and initiate requests for missing information and advise former students applying to a new program of financial holds;
Review and evaluate credentials of students applying for admission including the calculation of the transfer GPA, admission index, number of credits, transferable courses, course equivalency, and class level at entrance;
Admit of deny students and initiate notice of appropriate action;
Prepare written academic profile of students who petition following a denial;
Consult with and interpret for departments, students, other institutions and the public, a variety of matters concerning admissions procedures and academic programs;
Act as a liaison for institution between departments and students seeking information or admission to specialized academic programs;
Assist in the training of new evaluators; may direct work of office assistants or equivalent;
Maintain personal copies of “transfer book” and catalogs as changes occur; initiate action within the Admissions Office to determine new course equivalencies for other collegiate institutions’ course;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduation or GED equivalent; AND two years of admissions, registrar’s and/or related office experience. One year of college education may substitute for one year of required work experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
