CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Provide nutritional services directly to patients and nursing units.
BASIC FUNCTION
Deliver and pick up meals, nourishments and tube feedings to patients; record patient food intake; act as a liaison between the patient and the department.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
First-level class of series. Under general supervision, provide basic nutritional services to patients such as distribution and pick-up of meals.
TYPICAL WORK
Deliver meals, nourishments and tube feeding in accordance with patient diet orders; pick up food trays from patients;
Serve in a guest relations role to patients and visitors; relay patient food requests/comments to Dietetic Technicians;
Deliver or relay messages from nursing and other health care staff to the department;
Record food intake of selected patients;
Deliver and pick up patient food preference sheets;
May direct the work of student trainees and staff;
May assist in orienting and training new staff; and
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of, or eligible to obtain a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment, and one year of food service experience in a health care setting.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
