CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Maintain institution grounds, greenhouse and/or nursery.

BASIC FUNCTION

Prepare and maintain campus grounds and/or work in greenhouse or nursery.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under direct supervision, perform routine maintenance of institution grounds, such as weeding, mowing lawns and raking leaves.

TYPICAL WORK

Prepare soil for planting seed, sod, turf, plants, trees and shrubs;

Clean, service and maintain tools and equipment, including power equipment;

Seed, mow, irrigate, sweep, fertilize, top dress, edge and maintain lawns;

Rake and remove leaves; pull and hoe weeds;

Remove debris, leaves, brush, snow and ice from areas such as walks, stairs, roads, ramps and parking facilities;

Assist in the installation and repair of lawn sprinkler system components;

Use a variety of manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, hand edgers, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows, weeding forks, hoes, pruning shears and pesticide sprayers;

Install and maintain campus signs, fences, rockeries, etc.;

May operate power and motorized equipment such as small trucks, lawn mowers, edgers, chain saws, weed trimmers, backpack blowers and sweepers;

May assist in planting seed, sod, bulbs, shrubs, and trees; assist in transplanting seedlings or other nursery stock;

May assist in pruning, spraying and fertilizing trees and shrubs;

May apply pesticides and herbicides to greenery and plant material;

Perform related duties as required.

Physical ability to do required work.
