BASIC FUNCTION

Lead Hospital Central Services Technicians and other staff performing duties associated with a hospital central services unit. Decontaminate, sterilize, assemble and store instruments, basins, equipment and supplies according to prescribed procedures and techniques. Assist in the operation of the unit by coordinating and prioritizing the work, ordering, receiving and restocking supplies and linen; and monitoring the proper functioning of equipment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general direction, regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others; assist in the operation of the unit.

TYPICAL WORK

Schedule staff; coordinate orientation program and train new staff;

Prioritize and assign work;

Monitor function of processing equipment; troubleshoot and correct minor equipment failures such as sterilizer sequencing; initiate requests to vendors for service as needed;

Assist with implementation of policies and procedures;

Reassign staff in order to respond to unusual production needs;

Conduct and record results of quality assurance monitors;

Order, receive, store and account for supplies, linen and minor equipment;

Solve routine customer service problems and provide technical advice;

Assist with maintenance and organization of inventory records;

Verify correct sterilization cycles by checking and signing graphs and printouts;

Perform the work of Hospital Central Services Technicians II;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience performing the work of a Hospital Central Services Technician II

equivalent education/experience.
