DEFINITION

Manage the operational, financial and personnel activities of the swimming pools; supervise aquatic instruction.

TYPICAL WORK

Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the swimming pools;

Plan, organize, and promote an intramural aquatic program;

Enforce pool and safety regulations and administer first aid;

Maintain sanitary conditions in and around the pools and oversee the maintenance of pool equipment facilities;

Prepare reports on accidental injuries, pool operation; programs and the like;

Plan, assign and review the work of support staff; train and instruct support staff and lifeguards in methods and procedures;

Interview, select and evaluate the performance of student support staff and recommend employment of other support staff;

Teach swimming and lifesaving classes and officiate at swim meets;

Develop budget request for pool facility and activities;

Evaluate and recommend equipment purchases;

Review expenditures and maintain operating budget records for pools and the non-credit swimming program;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

A Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field; AND a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor’s Certificate, a Red Cross Standard First Aid Card and successful completion of an approved lifeguard training program; AND two years of experience in pool management and aquatic programs, including knowledge of pool maintenance and operations with two years of administrative and supervisory experience. Additional experience in physical education, recreation, or related field may substitute, year-for-year, for the Bachelor’s Degree requirements.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
