BASIC FUNCTION
Supervise assigned personnel and direct the activities of a media maintenance department.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general direction, with delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary actions.
Provide technical support such as: assigning and reviewing maintenance and repair activities; writing specifications for the purchase of media equipment; consulting on the planning, design, and installation of media equipment and systems; developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs; assisting in the development of budget requests; monitoring budgets.
TYPICAL WORK
Provide technical instruction and guidance to Media Maintenance personnel on repair, operation, and installation procedures;
Establish work schedules, instruct and direct difficult work operations, inspect work in progress and assure that standards of quality required by work are met;
Survey, research, design, and develop partial or complete media systems evaluate new equipment to determine applications and limitations;
Analyze media systems and identify appropriate maintenance requirements;
Develop and monitor preventive maintenance programs;
Write maintenance specifications for audio-visual, tele-communications, and media equipment and systems;
Assist in budget preparation and monitor budget expenditures;
Purchase (or direct the purchase of) parts and supplies; oversee inventory control;
Consult with faculty and staff on equipment purchases and media installations; provide cost estimates when requested;
Assist in formulating and enforcing safety rules and assure cleanliness in accordance with area requirements;
Repair and maintain various audio, video, audio-visual, television, satellite, or other media equipment or systems;
May perform limited maintenance or repair on computers;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One year of experience as a Media Maintenance Technician III or Lead
OR
Five years of experience as a media maintenance technician OR equivalent education/experience.
