BASIC FUNCTION

Support Patient Care Services at all UW Medicine entities by performing staffing duties and/or assisting with the coordination of patient movement and new admissions.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general direction, perform work to support Patient Care Services in coordination with hospital leadership. Positions in this classification are responsible for:

(1) staffing coordination duties ensuring staffing requirements are met across the hospital

AND/OR

(2) patient placement coordinator duties ensuring patients move effectively and efficiently into and through the hospital.

TYPICAL WORK

Systematically collect census and staffing requirements, and projected number of admissions from Charge Nurses to project resource needs and assign available staff according to established agreements;

Ensure accurate entry of assignments into Kronos Advanced Schedule software; generate various staffing reports;

Monitor the Absence from Work line and follow algorithms to communicate absences to appropriate departments; monitor the staffing email and phone for urgent changes required by Charge Nurses;

Run and review licensure reports in Workday; review Department of Health website to perform primary site license verification and update Workday with new expiration dates and follow standard procedures when required credentials are not updated by required deadlines;

Ensure cost effective cancellation of contract and nonpermanent staff during low census;

Partner with leadership, Charge Nurses, Physicians, and the Transfer Center to ensure expedient movement of patients into the hospital including Intensive Care and Acute Care bed placement;

Proactively evaluates patients needing placement from the emergency department and PACU to maintain patient flow;

Coordinate staffing and resource allocation with Nursing Supervisor to open and close boarder areas to accommodate fluctuating census;

Perform scheduling and timekeeping functions for the Resource Team;

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of administrative experience

OR

equivalent education/experience.
