CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Transcribe medical reports and correspondence. Transcription tasks constitute at least 60-80 percent of total work effort.
BASIC FUNCTION
Transcribe, proofread and edit medical reports using machine dictation and word processing equipment.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision, transcribe, proofread, and edit medical reports for one or two clinical departments or specialties.
TYPICAL WORK
Transcribe technical medical reports, correspondence, and grants for one or two clinical departments or specialities;
Proofread and edit transcribed materials to assure conformity to departmental and institutional format standards, readability and accuracy in content, grammar, spelling and punctuation;
Use and maintain up-to-date medical terminology reference sources; incorporate new terminology;
Maintain confidentiality of all transcribed materials;
Identify possible risk management cases;
May copy and distribute reports;
May answer and screen incoming telephone calls, process incoming and outgoing mail, maintain files and prepare invoices for billing or checks for deposit.
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduation or equivalent AND six months of occupational-level medical transcriptionist experience
OR
completion of an accredited medical transcriptionist course
OR
equivalent education/experience.
