BASIC FUNCTION

Lead assigned personnel and transcribe, proofread and edit complex medical reports using digital or machine dictation and word processing equipment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Regularly assign, instruct, and check the work of others. Under general supervision, coordinate with medical staff for chart completion and perform administrative duties such as preparing statistical summaries, maintaining supply inventory, and assisting with budget preparation.

TYPICAL WORK

Coordinate with medical staff and transcription staff to complete charts;

Prepare departmental reports and statistical summaries;

Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures;

Develop and implement training programs for new hires and existing personnel;

orient medical staff to departmental procedures and policies;

Ensure equipment is maintained and repaired as needed;

Assist in preparation of the departmental budget;

May coordinate vacation schedules;

Perform the duties of a Medical Transcriptionist II;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduation or equivalent; AND three years of occupational-level medical transcription experience, including two years of experience utilizing terminology of multiple body systems or in a multi-specialty department. Certified medical transcriptionist credentialing may substitute for one year of experience. Completion of an accredited medical transcriptionist course or equivalent may substitute for six months of experience
