BASIC FUNCTION

Lead Mental Health Specialists and assigned staff and provide prescribed advanced inpatient or outpatient mental health treatment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Assign, instruct, and check the work of Mental Health Specialists and other staff. Assist in the hiring, training, and orientation of staff, provide feedback on employee performance, and assist in the coordination of daily operations of the clinic.

TYPICAL WORK

Regularly assign, instruct, and check the work of Mental Health Specialists and other staff;

Serve as a clinical expert acting as a resource to staff in initiating care plans, discharge planning with interdisciplinary staff, and interpreting the Involuntary Treatment Act;

Act as the liaison for the department with physicians, interdisciplinary staff, and external authorities;

Provide feedback to coordinate appropriate staffing levels for the department;

Provide feedback on Mental Health Specialist I and 2 performances;

Resolve clinic issues such as treatment plans, staff assignments, and safety hazards;

Assist in evaluating and identifying policies and procedures to suggest operational changes;

Perform the duties of Mental Health Specialist 1 and 2;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree; AND two years as a Mental Health Specialist 2, or equivalent; experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
