CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
This classification series defines occupational therapist work performed at University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) and UWMC Clinics. Positions in this job assess patient status, plan, administer and evaluate occupational therapy services.
BASIC FUNCTION
Provide advanced occupational therapy services to patients in a specialty service including coordinating clinical activities and fieldwork programs in the specialty or leading occupational therapy staff.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general direction and with delegated authority from management, perform advanced occupational therapy services including:
1. Coordinate and provide leadership in a specialty service program. Work at this level includes providing in-service training programs and/or community training or outreach programs in a clinical specialty area(s), assisting in recruitment and coordinating of schedules for other therapy staff assigned to the specialty service program, and participating in developing budget requests for the specialty service program.
OR
2. Lead at least 1.0 FTE Occupational Therapists and other assigned staff. Regularly train, assign, organize or schedule work; and review completed work assignments. Perform administrative duties for the coordination and operation of the department. Lead program development activities.
TYPICAL WORK
Assist in directing and coordinating an occupational therapy specialty service or lead Occupational Therapists and other assigned staff;
Direct maintenance of orderly and safe environment for effective treatment;
Oversee training, competencies, and staff development; provide input towards staff performance evaluations; participate in the hiring process;
Assist Occupational Therapists in maintaining a progressive treatment program for patients;
Perform complex assessments in specialty service and recommend appropriate treatment plans;
Ensure procedures and standards are met for services provided in specialty; monitor quality assurance activities;
Develop and submit budget requests for program specialty; comply with budget restrictions; manage resource allocations within the program;
Develop and present in-services to students and staff in specialty area;
Provide direction and leadership in program development;
Participate in clinical studies;
Perform duties of Occupational Therapist 2;
May direct the work of others; and
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program AND successful completion of American Occupational Therapy Association certification examination AND three (3) years of professional occupational therapy experience.
OR
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, or registration.
LEGAL REQUIREMENT
Licensed by the state of Washington as an Occupational Therapist.
