CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Process and resolve patient accounts receivable.

BASIC FUNCTION

Supervise Patient Account Representatives and other assigned staff. Must supervise at least 1.0 FTE or the equivalent.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general direction and with delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations, and recommend disciplinary actions.

TYPICAL WORK

Supervise assigned staff, ensuring compliance with regulatory agency and third-party payer requirements and hospital policies and procedures;

Coordinate and monitor daily workflow in unit and adjust work assignments as necessary. Monitor productivity and quality or work by unit staff;

Evaluate, develop, and implement policies and procedures for the department; recommend appropriate changes to departmental policies;

Represent the unit to regulatory agency or third-party payer staff; attend meetings hosted by third party payers;

Review and interpret new insurance and regulatory agency requirements; identify topics for and develop training sessions;

Provide performance feedback and annual performance evaluations;

Participate in and/or lead special project work;

Review, correct and approve timekeeping/payroll reports; prepare administrative reports;

Document activities accurately in all applicable systems, and in accordance with departmental policies and procedures;

Maintain confidentiality of information, including protected health information (PHI);

Participate in and attend meetings and training as required;

Perform the work of Patient Account Representatives; and

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduation or equivalent and two years of college-level courses AND three years of experience in patient accounting, customer service, or a related office environment.

OR

Equivalent education/experience.

Classification series encompasses the work formerly performed by Patient Financial Services Specialist 1 (18081), Patient Financial Services Specialist 2 (18082), and Patient Financial Services Supervisor (18083). The Patient Financial Services series was inactivated at the effective date of the Patient Account Representative series.
