BASIC FUNCTION

Perform physical therapy treatments and assist the physical therapist with tests and measurements.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Single class – no series. Under general supervision, assist with physical therapy treatments.

TYPICAL WORK

Prepare patient and environment for therapy;

Implement treatment to patients with moderate to complex diagnoses, as directed by the physical therapist;

Report changes in patients’ status to therapist;

Participate in rounds for assigned patients;

Schedule assigned patients and departmental duties;

Assist the therapist in performing patient evaluations and tests;

Write progress notes; assist in completing informational forms;

Conduct hydrotherapy treatments of patients;

Maintain a clean, safe working environment;

Maintain therapeutic equipment;

Complete charge documents for patient services;

May assist in instructing and evaluating students;

May perform clerical duties;

Perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

An Associate of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program that includes patient treatment affiliation. Physical ability to move patients and equipment.

OR

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

LEGAL REQUIREMENT

Current Washington State license to practice as Physical Therapist Assistant.
