BASIC FUNCTION

Provide clinical expertise, quality assurance, research coordination, and continuing education of staff for a specialized area of respiratory care. Assist in the management of the respiratory care program, delivery of patient care and development of staff.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general direction, provide technical and clinical direction to respiratory care staff in a specialty area such as Intensive Care, Pediatrics, and Rehabilitation Medicine. Act as liaison with all medical center departments and coordinate continuing education.

TYPICAL WORK

Provide clinical direction of Respiratory Care Practitioners;

Provide information for employee selection, evaluation, discipline, and other administrative actions related to department personnel;

Provide skilled care to patients; coordinate staff participation in clinical projects in a specialty area;

Provide or participate in formal teaching programs and continuing education classes relevant to the clinical specialty; coordinate student clinical rotations;

Assist with the evaluation and testing of new products and respiratory care techniques;

Establish the respiratory care quality assurance programs; ensure quality patient care outcomes;

Assist with budgetary preparation and planning; help compile daily/monthly reports to facilitate tracking actions and budgetary implications;

Maintain staff schedules to ensure adequate staffing;

May represent the department at meetings;

Perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of a respiratory care program approved by the State of Washington Department of Health AND three years of respiratory care therapy experience

OR

equivalent education/experience.

LEGAL REQUIREMENT

Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (Registered Respiratory Therapist – RRT) by the State of Washington.
