DEFINITION
Assist in the coordination of projects and programs relating to the development of instructional materials for science faculty and external science education professionals.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions at this level will provide professional skills in media production under the supervision of higher level scientific instructional designers. Specific scientific and technical knowledge is required to perform job duties.
TYPICAL WORK
Work closely with science faculty in development of media products offering an understanding of technical applications and scientific content;
Carry out production services in programs relating to development of instructional materials, including film production, television, graphics, still photography, audio-tape and slide productions;
Analyze the scientific content of materials submitted relative to the objectives of the project;
Assist in the training of science faculty and/or science education professionals in the utilization of new teaching media and equipment through workshop groups;
Assist in the evaluation of new trends and developments in media production and equipment technology;
Participate in conferences, workshops, etc., concerning the application and utilization of audio-visual methods, materials and devices;
May coordinate and edit scripts, text, syllabuses, brochures, etc., for scientific instructional packages;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in science education or in a scientific discipline; AND one year of experience in the design and production of scientific instructional materials. Equivalent level experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
The announcement of position vacancy (recruiting bulletin) may specify course work or experience within a specific discipline if determined necessary by the personnel officer. Selective certification from the employment list will be permitted to meet unique requirements of specifically identified positions.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
