CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Perform fabrication, manufacture and repair tasks on a variety of cloth and clothing articles.
BASIC FUNCTION
Manufacture and repair of clothing and linen items.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
First-level class of series. Under direct supervision, perform routine seamstre tasks, e.g., cutting, sewing, repairing, discarding cloth articles.
TYPICAL WORK
Cut and sew a variety of cloth articles, e.g., smocks, covers surgical articles, gowns, laundry bags;
Alter and repair used clothing, uniforms and linen items;
Discard work or otherwise non-usable linen items;
Sew on buttons; install and repair zippers, snaps and grommets;
Operate electric sewing machines, power cutters and other sewing and mending equipment;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to operate a sewing machine.
