BASIC FUNCTION
Perform systems analysis, design and programming tasks such as analyzing, developing and maintaining program/database design specifications and writing, testing, and documenting complex computer programs/databases. Consult with and provide technical assistance and training to users/clients, departments and other programmers using various types of computer and software technologies.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision, perform journey-level systems analysis, design and programming tasks in developing and maintaining computer programs, systems and operational procedures and/or perform journey-level analysis, design and programming tasks in developing database systems including tasks such as data analysis and normalization, schema design and determining database backup and recovery techniques.
TYPICAL WORK
Perform systems analysis and program design tasks in determining computer system specifications, developing systems and operational procedures, and developing data models; write, test, and maintain complex computer programs;
Evaluate, develop and/or maintain database applications in single user and/or multi-user database environments such as student information systems, human resource systems and financial systems;
Prepare problem definitions and recommendations of equipment needed for solutions and prepare detailed logic flow diagrams and program instructions;
Analyze problems and modify system designs to get maximum advantage of existing hardware and software;
Develop requirements definitions, feasibility studies and reporting, and conceptual system models/design;
Write system design specifications, process flow descriptions and technical specifications;
Perform unit and integration testing, debugging and documenting;
Devise data verification methods and standard system operational procedures;
May direct the work of others;
Perform duties of Systems Analyst/Programmer II;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One year of experience as a Systems Analyst/Programmer II
OR
a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a job related area
OR
equivalent education/experience.
