Principal Research Scientist/Research Engineer

Job Summary:
Plans and directs the operation of a research or engineering program or components of a large program with unusually difficult scientific problems that require a high degree of expertise, creative insight and technical skill. This level is often the PI on a project and usually requires extensive progressive experience, including work comparable to senior level. Identifies and defines the problem, determines objectives, oversees the implementation of appropriate methodology, directs data acquisition and reduction, synthesizes and interprets results and formulates hypotheses. Provides technical leadership for the unit/laboratory in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for an assigned area of responsibility (i.e., subject matter, function, type of facility or equipment, or product). Presents papers, leads symposia and chairs committees; participates on advisory/policy boards, journals and societies; serves as peer reviewer of major technical programs; networks nationally and internationally. Plans, organizes and supervises the work of a staff of scientists, engineers, and technicians.

Qualifications:
Requires a PhD degree. Master’s degree candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered. Six or more years in a related area.

Research Consultant

Job Summary:
Working under the general direction of a Principal Investigator or collaboratively with other research staff, this position designs, develops and maintains sophisticated database structures that effectively and efficiently support data collection, input and analysis of multi-focused research project(s). Develops or assists with the development of data collection instruments. Analyzes data and assists in the preparation of results for reports, publications and/or presentations. May also perform other research support functions.

Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree with competency in a specific field of research and one year experience with database development and statistical analysis.

Research Coordinator (7)

Job Summary:
Develops and maintains an ongoing portfolio of clinical trials for the faculty within the Department. This includes researching available projects and funding, preparing proposals and budgets that meet the needs and requirements of the departmental faculty, and adhering to University and sponsor guidelines. In addition, works with the Offices of Human Subjects, Compliance, Sponsored Projects and others as necessary to get all the required approvals prior to submission. Prepares reports to the funding agencies and serves as liaison to the funding agencies and performs other related duties as needed. Under the supervision of the principal investigators, follows research protocols to obtain data through interviewing subjects/patients, conducting laboratory tests, consulting with the physician and reviewing medical records, coordinates patient participation in medical research studies, and compiles and verifies the accuracy of research data. The individual in this position will also take part in the call schedule for clinical trials of neurology.

Job Summary:
Working under the general direction of a Principal Investigator, provides overall coordination of a significant multi-funded research project. Formulates and guides plans for solving research problems presented by PI and research staff. Assists in developing research designs, data collection methods and strategies for data management. Coordinates multiple data collection efforts which may include other collaborating agencies or institutions. May recruit or oversee the recruitment and interviewing of human subjects. Writes and edits technical reports and manuscripts for publication or presentation. Develops and monitors project budget. Prepares progress reports/proposals. Liaisons between the project team and funding agencies or significant parties.

Research Manager

Participates in determination of strategic direction of research programs. May represent the principal investigator to the federal funding partners and other funding partners as necessary. Supervises at least two or more full-time employees, typically a mix of Research Scientist/Engineers, Research Coordinators and classified research and office support staff.

Research Scientist/Research Engineer – Senior

Job Summary:
Senior/seasoned professional level. Plans and executes laboratory research. Independently applies advanced knowledge of scientific research or engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Makes decisions independently on technical problems and methods, and represents the project in conferences to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate work. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Uses a wide application of complex principles, theories and concepts in the specific field, plus may have working knowledge of other related disciplines to provide solutions to a wide range of difficult problems; ensures that improvement and/or changes are implemented as specified. Works on extremely complex problems of diverse scope where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of intangible variance factors. Acts as a technical lead or consultant on various projects; leads the development of intellectual property. Exhibits creativity, foresight and mature judgment in conducting research programs/projects. Supervises, coordinates and reviews the work of a small staff of engineers, scientists and technicians. Estimates personnel needs and schedules and assigns work to meet completion dates; integrates project staffing decisions with overall technical strategy; assists in developing selection/assessment criteria and hiring processes for research/engineering staff.
