Producer 2 – Radioactive

CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Work with high school age youth as part of KUOW’s Youth Media program to introduce them to radio storytelling, journalism and multimedia production, producing multimedia content for KUOW’s broadcast and web platforms. This is the first level of a two-level series specific to RadioActive; the preceding level is Producer 1 – RadioActive.

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide instruction to youth program participants on basic production methods and equipment used to create original content for KUOW’s broadcast and web platforms.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under the supervision of the Senior Managing Producer, Radioactive, oversee and participate in KUOW’s youth program to introduce teen age youth to radio, teaching them skills related to storytelling, journalism and multimedia production.

In collaboration with KUOW Editors, edit youth-produced content that may be used for broadcast, edit online copy for web postings and ensure that KUOW editorial and broadcast standards have been applied to online and broadcast content.

Work with the program supervisor to review outreach opportunities that would expose the program to more diverse audiences. Coordinate presentations and workshops at external venues.

Work with KUOW staff to develop and promote the RadioActive program, including audio, print and online channels and through collaborations with other organizations.

TYPICAL WORK

Typical working title is “Producer 2 – RadioActive” or “RadioActive Program Manager”;

Prepare and facilitate workshops and activities that introduce youth to storytelling, journalism and broadcast and multimedia production;

Guide workshop participants in identifying areas of interest and in developing story ideas, assigning and editing original content;

Provide instruction on the use of audio and video equipment to attain basic level efficiency or greater;

In collaboration with KUOW Editors, edits content that may be used for broadcast, edit online copy for web postings and ensures that KUOW editorial standards have been applied to online and broadcast content;

Work with the program supervisor to review outreach opportunities that would expose the program to more diverse audiences. Coordinate presentations and workshops at external venues;

Conduct flexible sessions to provide further development and production opportunities to RadioActive program alumni. Edit content with assistance as needed from KUOW Editors;

Work with KUOW staff to develop and maintain program promotional activities – audio, print, online and through collaborating organizations; and

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional broadcast experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Background in radio production with a knowledge of professional broadcast standards and practices.
