CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Produce lectures and speeches recorded in the field for broadcast on KUOW radio. Perform all aspects of live or automated daily board shift including combo board operation, announcing and newscasting. This is a single-class series.

BASIC FUNCTION

Select and coordinate taping of lectures, speeches and panel discussions. Serves as primary announcer and board operator for assigned shift.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under the supervision of the Director of Community Engagement, select and coordinate taping of lectures, speeches and panel discussions, edit recorded content for broadcast using digital audio editing software, and write and voice for broadcast, creating and adding lecture introductions and back announces.

Assign hourly staff to record lectures.

Establish and maintain relationships with venues that host and present lectures and speeches and interact with audience via social media platforms including Twitter and Facebook, as assigned. Develop and write online posts and produce broadcast excerpts of program content.

TYPICAL WORK

Typical working title is “Producer – Speakers Forum”;

Select and coordinate taping of lectures, speeches and panel discussions;

Edit recorded content for broadcast using digital audio editing software;

Write and voice for broadcast, lecture introductions and back announces;

Establish and maintain relationships with venues that host and present lectures and speeches;

Provide primary voice and production of underwriting spots, as assigned;

Produce, plan, write, edit and voice break content during shift both live and automated;

Develop and write online posts and produce broadcast excerpts of program content;

Monitor system and KUOW communications and news wire to provide programming updates;

Assist with Public Radio Program Distribution system using Content Depot, PRX, FTP, in conjunction with AudioVault and NewsBoss;

Provide production support as assigned;

Backs up other shifts as needed;

Perform other occasional on-air work including on-air fundraising.

May perform occasional work in support of fundraising; and

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional broadcast journalism experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Requires knowledge of professional broadcast and journalistic standards and practices.
