CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within the Institute for Health Metrics Evaluation (IHME), provide specialized oversight and guidance of extraction processes from multiple data sources according to set protocols.

BASIC FUNCTION

In support of assigned research team, other IHME research teams and/or external partners, contributors and stakeholders, provide quantitative data to help produce comparable estimates of the impact of disease, injuries, and risk factors around the world.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, independently provides guidance on the extraction of all available quantitative data, such as mortality, cause of death, epidemiology, contributing non-health risk factors – education, income and air pollution, from surveys, censuses, literature and administrative health records into central databases.

TYPICAL WORK

Perform duties of a Data Extraction Analyst;

Analyze current and proposed extraction protocols to identify problems and anticipate potential issues, and work with research managers, researchers and faculty to determine how to resolve the issues;

Work with researchers to explain and modify extraction processes and data fields to support the research work of other research staff, other research teams, collaborators and stakeholders;

Document and communicate changes to extraction processes to ensure the implementation of best practice strategies throughout IHME;

May train staff on processes and guidelines for data management and extractions;

May lead assigned staff;

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a Science discipline, Global Health, Public Health or related and three years of related experience

OR

Equivalent combination of education/experience.
