CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Within the Institute for Health Metrics Evaluation (IHME), provide support of IHME global and national population health research activities, related through the development, implementation, and management of proposals for competitive grants, contracts and employment recruitments.
BASIC FUNCTION
Develop, implement, and manage proposals for competitive grants, contracts and employment recruitments.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Under general supervision, identify, assess, and secure new funding streams to support IHME’s global health research, internal and external training, recruitment, and public information activities.
TYPICAL WORK
Identify, document, and track potential funding opportunities through regular review of external grant proposal requirements and internal funding plans;
Align potential funding opportunities with IHME’s research priorities and strategic needs, making recommendations on potential proposal development projects;
Collaborate with faculty and research team members to translate broad research ideas into demonstrable hypotheses that can be included in the research proposals;
Read, analyze and interpret scientific data and information, in order to better inform proposal writing;
Formulate and frame research hypotheses to be responsive to requests for proposals;
Manage communications and coordination with all internal stakeholders for the development, review, and approval of proposal content;
Manage content creation, review, and revision. Ensure proposals meet internal and external requirements;
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and project managers to write and edit high-quality proposal content;
Conduct literature reviews, background searches, and article summaries to support proposal development, develop funder insights, and develop materials for briefings, presentations, other workshops and public information platforms;
Track and report proposal development and activity, from individual proposals to overall funding portfolios, including developing and updating metrics for progress and establishing calendars to track prospective, pending, active, and prior funding sources;
Develop, implement, monitor and ensure proposal development timelines are met;
Provide training, mentoring, and resources to IHME faculty and staff involved in proposal development;
Develop relationships with external partners who could collaborate in proposal development, such as partnering research institutions, and state and federal government agencies;
Provide training and coordination with research and project management staff during the transition from pre-award to active award; and
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in a Science or Social Science discipline or related and five years of related experience

Equivalent combination of education/experience.
