CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within the Institute for Health Metrics Evaluation (IHME), support the development of scientific papers and publications, in fields such as but not limited to epidemiology, biostatistics, health survey methodology, health economics, demography and social determinants, as they relate to the global health metrics analysis, evaluation and hypothesis conducted at IHME.

BASIC FUNCTION

Create compelling technical and non-technical manuscript journals and publication materials for a diverse audience of IHME internal and external stakeholders.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under direct supervision, conceptualize, design, produce, proofread, and edit technical and non-technical manuscript journals and publication materials for IHME. Develop a thorough understanding of the different internal and external scientific communities who are key for IHME to reach through a strategic publication strategy.

TYPICAL WORK

Under the guidance of their supervisor and/or other higher-level IHME administrator, manage the production of technical and non-technical manuscript journals and publication materials including, but not limited to policy reports, scientific articles, books, and other materials geared towards a diverse audience;

Edit and proofread external and internal written communications, such as policy reports, peer-reviewed journal submissions, news releases, infographics, brochures, website content, newsletters, presentations and other print materials;

Work closely with and advise IHME staff, administrators, and executives to design and produce compelling representations of complex health data and IHME research initiatives, in various written formats;

Manage the paper production process across research teams, create and update production timelines, ensuring that all interrelated aspects of the schedule are being tracked and adapting timelines if milestones or deadlines shift.

Assigns writing, editing, proofreading, and production tasks to other IHME graphic design staff and/or contracted vendors;

Ensure print materials comply with IHME and University of Washington branding guidelines, while exercising creativity to produce compelling publications;

Edit and proofread various print materials prior to publication, to ensure the accuracy of information held within;

Contribute ideas for the maintenance of or enhancement to, the IHME Brand design;

May lead, mentor or direct the work of other IHME staff, involved in copyediting and proofreading publication materials;

May train IHME staff in editing and proofreading best practices;

Disseminate design best practices and principles throughout IHME; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in English, Social Sciences, Health Science or related field and three years of experience,

OR

Equivalent combination of education/experience.

CLASS SERVICE EXEMPTION

Graphic Arts and Publications.
