CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within the UW Libraries, provide management for an access services unit’s staff, operations, and leadership in policy development that contributes to critical academic library functions.

BASIC FUNCTION

Direct staff and activities for a large and complex library access services unit or units.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under administrative direction, provide overall management and policy guidance for the access services unit(s); develop and implement programs for services, hiring, training, and evaluating personnel; develop and maintain system-wide circulation policies and services; and contribute to the management of collection materials, public services, and spaces.

TYPICAL WORK

Manage the Access Services operations at multiple information or circulation desks, including supervising sub-area supervisors, student assistants and staff, assigning, directing, evaluating, and reviewing work;

With delegated authority, manage affiliated budgets;

Serve as the subject matter expert for program-specific related questions or requests;

Provides physical management of collections in multiple locations, consulting as appropriate with subject specialists, building managers, and Preservation staff;

Manage processes and contributes to policy development for operations such as circulation, materials delivery, interlibrary loan, and course reserves;

In consultation with stakeholders, makes decisions regarding Integrated Library System (ILS) configuration; assists with configuration;

Represents UW Libraries Access Services operations at the consortium level;

Oversee scheduling of staff and students on service points and desks;

Oversee the scheduling of physical access to the building using and configuring appropriate technologies and support;

Oversee communications about library hours, including signage, online information, and coordination with campus partners such as facilities, safety, and other departments in the building(s);

Coordinate with partner organizations for libraries spaces and services such as UW-IT and Creative Communications;

Manage processes and contribute to policy development for reservation and use of study and presentation rooms, equipment, and other related services;

Make recommendations on the Library policies, plans and programs;

May perform the work of a Libraries Access Services Manager 8; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in business, education, library or information science, social sciences or a related field, and 5 years of work experience and at least 2 years relevant leadership experience.

OR

Equivalent combination of education/experience.
