CLASS SERIES CONCEPT
Within the UW Libraries Advancement team, assist in planning, managing, and directing Libraries advancement activities and efforts to secure gifts. This is a stand-alone job class.
BASIC FUNCTION
Carry out advancement-related marketing, communications and events for UW Libraries.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Libraries Advancement, design, develop and implement comprehensive communications plan for Libraries Advancement, overseeing, producing and aligning donor outreach materials with Libraries strategic priorities and UW branding pillars (e.g. case statement, brochures, web, videos, presentations, and fundraising materials). Generate appropriate, compelling timely and accurate information for communication to internal and external Libraries donor audiences. Design, create and produce communications materials that steward and support donor development. Develop, manage and execute annual events plan for Libraries Advancement, focusing on activities that attract/encourage friend-raising, fundraising and major initiatives.
TYPICAL WORK
Develop and implement comprehensive communications plan for Libraries Advancement, overseeing, producing and aligning donor outreach materials with Libraries strategic priorities and UW branding pillars (e.g. case statement, brochures, web, videos, presentations, and fundraising materials). Generate appropriate, timely and accurate information for communication to internal and external Libraries donor audiences
Lead and oversee all Libraries Advancement marketing and communications in close partnership with Libraries Communications staff, developing new content and repurposing existing content to feed directly into donor communications: email, website, print, social media, and video communication materials in support of Libraries Advancement goals
Create and execute publicity plans to promote Libraries Advancement events and donor-development activities. Coordinate with UW Press as needed
Create content and distribute communications materials, often based on donor and staff stories, including event and collection spotlights, and major donor stewardship reports, such as the Allen Report. Coordinate with Libraries Communications Director and University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) on major gift announcements and donor stewardship reports
Oversee and execute content and updates of Libraries Advancement web pages to enhance audience development, including stewardship initiatives, highlighting impact and involvement of donors, sponsors and other gifts to Libraries
Design, purchase and order promotional materials
Exercise independent judgment in developing relationships with current or potential campus partners, volunteers, donors, Libraries staff, alumni, corporate supporters, students and outside vendors
Develop, plan, and stage manage events for Libraries Advancement as part of an annual events plan, focusing on activities that attract/encourage friend-raising, fundraising and major initiatives
Provide outstanding customer service to event guests. Serve as liaison to guest speakers and ensure data from events is in sync and updated in donor database
Monitor expense-revenue reports for events
Work with staff throughout Libraries, in addition to Advancement team, sharing and requesting information as appropriate, and coordinating with Libraries Communications team
May hire and supervise student hourlies;
May plan and coordinate work and provide training for volunteers, freelance writers, designers, students and Libraries staff involved in Advancement outreach and event activities and
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field and 2 – 3 years of experience in communications, marketing, event planning, development, public relations or a related field.
OR
Equivalent combination of education/experience.
