Payroll Title Research Coordinator
Typical Responsibilities

Apply scientific knowledge gained through formal education at least at the Bachelor's level or equivalent/related experience to coordinate a significant research project or multiple smaller research projects. Participate in developing research designs, data collection methods, and strategies for data management. Coordinate multiple data collection efforts which may include collaborating agencies or institutions. Duties may also include recruiting or overseeing the recruitment and interviewing of human subjects, preparing human subject applications, writing and editing technical reports and manuscripts for publication or presentation, developing and monitoring project budgets, preparing progress reports/proposals, and acting as a liaison between the project team and and research project partners and funding agencies.May supervise research and support staff.

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervision of staff is not required, but is commonly found at higher grades in the series. Supervisors have the authority to hire staff, evaluate job performance, and take corrective action if performance is not acceptable.

Overtime Eligibility

FLSA overtime status is based on the position's duties and responsibilities, and whether or not the position's gross salary is less than the federal FLSA salary basis test or the Washington state salary basis test, whichever is higher. Professional Staff Exemption

Research: Individuals having formal academic preparation at least at the Bachelor's level or demonstrated professional competence in a specific field of research, and having responsibility for or assisting in one or more of the following tasks: Identifying and defining research problems, Designing approaches or hypotheses to be tested and the methodology to be used, Designing specific phases of research projects, Analyzing results, Developing conclusions and hypotheses, Presenting research results in publishable form, and/or Obtaining research grants.

Alternative Payroll Titles

If the primary focus of the position is designing, developing, analyzing and maintaining research database structures and systems, then the Research Consultant payroll title may be more appropriate.If the primary focus is performing research, then the Research Scientist/Engineer payroll title may be more appropriate.If the primary focus is administration and oversight of the financial, operational and personnel functions of a research program, grant, or center, then a title under the Program Direction/Control exemption may be appropriate. If the duties are primarily program fiscal or office support, review titles in the classified program.

Limitations

At least 50% of the position's time must be spent in research activities to meet the Research exemption. Work associated with obtaining and monitoring research funds should not be a majority of the job duties.
