Cultivating Community at UW: Anti-Racism and DEI&B Training
This required 2.5-hour online course is designed to educate our community on a range of topics relevant to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEI&B). The training is designed for staff, faculty, and other academic personnel and is a requirement of Senate Bill 5227 for employees hired after 6/30/22 at Washington’s public institutions of higher education. UW Medicine employees are exempt from this new training but are required to complete other UW Medicine–specific anti-racism and DEI&B trainings.
Husky Prevention & Response (Title IX)
Husky Prevention & Response is a foundational, required online prevention and response course about sex- and gender-based violence and harassment for staff, faculty, and other academic personnel. Throughout the course, the strategies offered are meant to create and support positive UW climates and endeavor to stop sex- and gender-based violence and harassment before they happen. The course is relevant to all UW workplace and campus locations and includes tailored content based on your employee role. New employees must complete the course within 30 days of their hire date (please note new employees will be able to access the course beginning their second day of employment). For more information on the course visit the Title IX employee course webpage.
Violence prevention and response
This 90-minute training workshop, facilitated by SafeCampus, teaches employees how to recognize concerning behaviors, respond, and prevent violence in the workplace. To register for Violence Prevention and Response training, visit the SafeCampus website.
Reporting suspected child abuse
Employees will learn about their mandated reporting responsibilities by watching the 21-minute online training, Reporting Suspected Child Abuse or Neglect, developed by the Office for Youth Programs Development and Support. To successfully complete the training, employees must correctly answer a series of quiz questions.
Asbestos awareness
This 15-minute online asbestos awareness training course is required for all paid University personnel.
Trainings for hiring managers
All hiring managers with access to UWHIRES are required to complete a training on Implicit bias. Hiring managers and others involved in the hiring process are required to complete the Record keeping supports a fair hiring process training. More information and links to access both trainings are posted on UWHR’s Trainings for hiring managers webpage.
Hazing prevention
All employees are required by House Bill 1751, also known as Sam’s Law, to complete the University’s Hazing Prevention Training. This includes student employees and employees of UW Medicine who have direct ongoing contact with students in a supervisory role or position of authority over students. Student employees should take the student course, while professional employees should complete the faculty/staff course.
The training will help all employees recognize the signs and dangers of hazing and understand the UW’s prohibition on hazing, reporting protocols, and supporting resources. The training is approximately 25 minutes long and must be completed by your unit’s specified date. Please reach out to your supervisor to learn more about the date you must have it completed. New hires with ongoing contact with students in a supervisory role or position of authority over students should complete the training as part of their onboarding process and then annually based on your unit-assigned date.
