About UW Service Recognition Program
Last updated: June 27, 2024
The University of Washington administers its Service Recognition Program to recognize all regular staff for their continuous years of dedicated service to the University. Staff are recognized for every five years of their continuous service (e.g., 5, 10, 15-year milestones.).
How is service measured?
The Service Recognition Program measures your continuous employment from your “company service date.” The company service date is your most recent date of hire into continuous UW service in a regular staff position. Periods of academic, student, or intermittent and non-permanent employment are not included.
Program eligibility
All regular staff who are in active service on their company service anniversary date are eligible.
Time on layoff is not deducted as long as the employee remains on the layoff list until rehired by the University. Employees rehired by the University after their removal from a layoff list do not have time on layoff counted towards service recognition milestones and their company service date is reset.
Employees on a leave of absence during their company service anniversary will still receive their selected award from their department upon return to work.
Service Award Coordination
UW Human Resources (UWHR) contacts employees and their managers over email to notify them of the employee’s milestone anniversary. The UWHR service award coordinator for your unit can answer questions about the Program.
UW Recognition Awards Shop
The UW Recognition Awards Shop is available so that departments may purchase service recognition awards for librarians and faculty who do not participate in the UW Service Recognition Program, or to recognize employees with an award for their outstanding work.
UW departments may purchase recognition gifts at a substantial discount directly through the UW Bookstore shop portal. The gift selection provides options that are suitable for every recognition event and budget.
